Air Montenegro is set to introduce a new scheduled service connecting Podgorica and Rome during the upcoming winter season. Commencing on December 15, the airline will inaugurate two weekly flights, serving the capitals on Mondays and Fridays.
This route was previously maintained by Montenegro’s former national carrier, Montenegro Airlines, until the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. Additionally, Alitalia operated flights between these two cities until the onset of the global health emergency.
Wizz Air, another airline operating between Podgorica and Rome, recently announced its decision to temporarily downgrade the service to seasonal summer flights, meaning it will not operate during the winter season but plans to resume operations in 2024.
In the previous year, a total of 30,660 passengers traveled on this route. The peak in passenger numbers occurred in 2018 when 46,298 travelers commuted between the two European capitals.
